Robert Lambert was third in the first round of FOGO FIM Speedway U21 World Championship 2019, which was held in Lublin (Poland). Brit got 14 points and is currently 4th overall.
Lambert is one of the favourites to dethrone Bartosz Smektała and reach for the title. Brit has already won both silver and bronze in the junior championship and this year's series is his last chance to reach for the highest aim. Ahead of the round in Lublin, Norwich-born rider had been put as the top favourite to win it as he represents local Speed Card Motor Lublin. And it all started great for him as he was piling up the points, however tumble in heat no.16 got him into some trouble.
- It was a good meeting. I had a good start, but after the tumble I wasn't so confident to go into the corners so deeply, which resulted in my scores in the semi-final and the final heat. I'm happy with this podium spot and the points I gathered. It puts me in a good situation before the next round.
Second round will be taken in Güstrow (Germany). For Lambert, it's a great information, not only because of local fans, among whom, he's got lots of supporters, but also because of his results he's been having at this track. Two years ago, he was second in the U21 World Championship there and one year back, he won the SEC round.
- I'm really happy with having the second round in Güstrow, where I can count on fans' support. It gives me this extra boost to fight. In some sense, it's like a home track for me, I have some great memories from there. I hope to get a good result - Lambert ended.
