Chmiel: I want to make it better

Share on:

Robert Chmiel made a debut in this year U21 World Championship. In previous tournaments he didn’t make his best, but he still believes that he can do it better in last round. Also he still feels insufficiency.

Chmiel’s promotion to best juniors in the world group was a big surprise. At the moment, when eliminations took place, ROW Rybnik rider didn’t show any kind of good form. Despite that, in Rawicz he scored 12 points, which gave him 4th place, behind Robert Lambert, Bartosz Smektała and Andreas Lyager. In that way, he opened the gate to U21 Worlds.

- This year U21 World Championship are something special. I’m in the bunch of the best juniors in the world and not everyone can be there. Taking part in that cycle is a huge pleasure for me, but I’m not happy with my results. I didn’t win a fight with pressure and I can’t made my best – he said.

Since now, in two U21 World Championship rounds, Chmiel has been placed in lower part of bracket. In Daugavpils he scored only 1 point and finished 16th. He only beat Davis Kurmis, who had some technical problems and didn’t finish competition. A little bit better was in Leszno, where Chmiel scored 3 points and has been placed at 14th position. Since now, ROW Rybnik rider, was 3rd four times and in the rest of races he finished last.

- To be honest, I didn’t think that I will ride as bad as I did. I’m pretty sure that I wasn’t prepared for that and I put too much pressure on myself. I think that’s why I didn’t make it better – said Chmiel.

Last FIM Speedway U21 World Championship will take place on September 28th in Pardubice. In view of too big difference between Chmiel and other riders, he hasn’t a lot of chance to move up in general classification. Despite that, he will come to Czechia in a good shape.

- I want to make it better and show that I can win races. That’s not a mystery that I want to ride as good as I can. My goal is clear – to score as many points as it will be possible. I raced in Pardubice in the past. To be honest, that tournament didn’t go well, but I like to ride there. That’s fast and huge track – argues rider.

On the top of the general classification are now Chmiel’s friends, Maksym Drabik and Bartosz Smektała. Difference between top two riders is now 6 points. It seems that Poles can take two most valuable medals.

- Huge congratulations for Maks and Bartek for their performance in U21 Worlds, but that’s their usual level. I want to be in the same place in the future and I will do everything to gain it. I hope, in 2019 I will have a chance to ride in World Championship and to show my real skills – finished Chmiel.

I can win that

Round in Pardubice saved my season

Also in Leszno it was only a little bit better, because ROW Rybnik rider finished competition with 4 points. Now he’s explaining, that in Latvia he had some bad luck.
