Drabik’s perfection. Pole won in Leszno

Maksym Drabik won second FIM Speedway U21 World Championship round, which took place in Leszno. On Alfred Smoczyk’s stadium „Torres” didn’t lose with anyone and scored maximum points.

In first series, fans had a chance to watch fight against Drabik and Smektała. This time, „Torres” was better and started march for a win. First part of the competition was also good for Joel Kling. Swede as example, beat local star, Dominik Kubera. Also Robert Lambert was as fast as always and he did some epic movements on the track.

In another series favourites didn’t make any surprise, but Britton Daniel Bewley tried to chase them by winning 3 races in a row. In the good form was also Andreas Lyager. Dane, in basic part, scored 10 points and beat Robert Lambert.

The best races of the night was 15th and 16th. In first of them the fastest was Dominik Kubera, which get him closer to semifinal. In second, Bartosz Smektała took nice fight against Daniel Bewley, which won Britton.

In first semifinal, what wasn’t a surprise, the best was Drabik, who rode in another league. Also Bewley promoted to final.
In second semifinal, everything were different. Smektała, Kubera and Lambert made a perfect show for fans. All three riders made some epic rides in the corners, what was fantastic summary of today’s competition.

Before final, everybody belives in epic fight between all four riders. For 2 laps, all three Poles fought for a win. Unfortunately on second turn Kubera and Drabik had a little contact, what caused „Torres” fall and Kubera was excluded.

- We had a little colission with „Domin”. We wanted to win. Fortunately nothing happen – said Drabik.

In re-run, Drabik was the fastest and everything took place in first corner. „Torres” controled all race, but Smektała tried to overtook him for all 4 laps. Third was Bewley, for who that was first U21 World Championship podium.

- I’m not glad as I want to be. I rode in my hometown and I was on the lead in first verion of final race. I don’t want to remember that. The most important is that I scored a lot of points to general classification – said Bartosz Smektała.

Final, third U21 World Championhip round will take place in Pardubice. In provisional classification, first is Maksym Drabik, who scored 41 of 42 possible points. Second is Smektała, who have 6 points less.

- For this time is too early to think about Pardubice. A lot of time left to that. For sure, I will be prepared – said Drabik.

Third in general classification is Robert Lambert.

I want to defend the title

Speedway is unpredictable. Despite the fact, that before last U21 World Championship round nobody expected the miracle, it did happen. Bartosz Smektała got 6 points which were essential in order to beat Maksym Drabik and won gold. Fogo Unia Leszno pupil shocked not only fans and specialists, but also himself.

I collided with the reality

Davis Kurmis is a 20-year old Latvian from Daugavpils. Lokomotiv’s pupil made a debut in U21 World Championships in 2018, when organisers gave him a wild card. Unfortunately, that wasn’t his cycle, because he finished 17th with only 7 points.

I’m dissapointed that I didn’t stand on the podium

Andreas Lyager finished 2018 U21 FIM Speedway Championships on 5th position. Dane, for whom it was second season in U21 Worlds, with 29 points, has been placed behind the biggest favourites – Bartosz Smektała, Maksym Drabik, Robert Lambert and Dominik Kubera.

Round in Pardubice saved my season

2018 season was first for Robert Chmiel in U21 FIM Speedway World Championships cycle. Young rider from Rybnik had a pretty good reasult – he finished 9th with 11 points. It’s important to remember, that beginning wasn’t as good as final score. In Daugavpils, Pole scored only 1 point. Also in Leszno it was only a little bit better, because ROW Rybnik rider finished competition with 4 points. Now he’s explaining, that in Latvia he had some bad luck.

Mihailov: I learned a lot

19-year-old Oleg Mihailov is a huge hope for Latvian speedway. Lokomotiv Daugavpils’ rider started in one round of U21 World Championships 2018 and made a really good result. On his hometrack he scored 12 points. Young Latvian came to the top of world’s juniors very fast.

Injury destroyed his season

He was one of the candidates to fight for medals, but injury destroyed his season. Britton Dan Bewley finished U21 World Championship’s cycle on 8th position. 19-year-old rider finished so high despite the fact that he didn’t participate in last round in Pardubice.
