For Bartosz Smektała, this season was the best in his career. Pole won silver medal in World U-21 Championship in Pardubice last weekend. After two unsatisfactory races, he found right setups for track in Czechia and fought for silver medal until the end.
Bad beginning of the tournament proved that Smektała will fight for staying on GC podium. After two races, Smektała had only 2 points on his account. That was pretty good information for Max Fricke and Brady Kurtz, close to him in general classification.
After two races, when I couldn’t gain any speed, I thought about competition last year, when I made hopeless result. Only at the end of tournament, after grand final, I could say that I feel good on this track – said Pole.
Smektała and Fricke duel was going until last race of Championships. There were very close to situation, where extra race would be deciding one for them. Fortunately, for Polish fans, Kacper Woryna helped his mate by beating Fricke in final heat.
- Before final I didn’t count how many points I have to score to save sliver. I came to the tape with motivation to win it. When I heard that I should buy Kacper a beer I was surprised, but now I know what does it mean. Now I have to go to my bus, take a wallet and go to the shop – said „Smyk” after competition.
For Smektała, this season was very successful. Unia Leszno pupil won a gold in Polish Team Championships. Also he won in Speedway World Cup, European and World U-21 Team Champs.
- I hope it isn’t the best season in my career. Medals are mobilizing me. I can’t wait to take part in U-21 Worlds next season – finished Bartosz Smektała.
